The following stories of growth and impact from GDC members and their partners demonstrate the critical role of financial intermediaries in channelling finance to unlock LMDs’ potential to reach even more underserved consumers, and enabling other funders to achieve their own financial and impact goals.
Investing in last mile distribution
Solibrium and Charm Impact
This video shines a spotlight on GDC member Solibrium, an early-stage last mile distribution company selling off-grid solar products to rural households in Kenya. With a loan from Charm Impact, Solibrium has been able to reach many more last mile consumers with beneficial products.
Energy+ and VentureBuilder
This video tells the story of GDC member Energy+, who sells off-grid solar products to rural customers in Mali, where 60% of people still live without access to modern electricity services. With investment from VentureBuilder – alongside debt and grant funding from Cordaid Foundation and USADF – Energy+ has been able to scale its operations across Mali.
ATEC* and Beneficial Returns
This video shines a spotlight on GDC member ATEC*, a LMD operating in Cambodia that has reached almost 14,000 customers with its biodigester technology. Thanks to funding from private foundations like Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Beneficial Returns was able to provide substantial working capital to help ATEC* scale its operations and reach even more people.
This project was funded with UK aid from the UK government, via the Transforming Energy Access programme.
