Implementing Effective Innovation Challenges: Three lessons from the last mile distribution sector

How do you go beyond the traditional innovation challenge goal of sourcing and supporting individual solutions, and instead leverage this approach to drive change across the sector as a whole? Since 2019, the GDC has run two Innovation Challenges to support nine GDC members and their partners with technical assistance and funding to bring an exciting idea to life. We focussed on the replicability of the innovations piloted, and the willingness of pilot teams to open-source the insights, learnings and resources they developed through the challenges. This article explores the successes and difficulties we experienced in working toward this goal, and highlights key lessons learned.
